Public Relations & Digital Media Manager

Job Description

  • Lead, direct and assist public relations department team members in managing client accounts across all industries
  • Develop and execute short- and long-range public relations and social media campaigns outlining goals, objectives, strategies and evaluation tools for current/prospective clients
  • Work with digital media strategist to develop client social media campaigns and create engaging content across all platforms
  • Write pitches and press releases to local, regional and national media that target, engage and ultimately obtain media coverage
  • Direct and attend client meetings
  • Plan, execute and attend agency and client events (Ex: Birmingham Restaurant Week, SliceFest, Breakin’ Bread and others)
  • Develop targeted media lists using media monitoring software (Cision)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional media
  • Coordinate with media, write talking points and attend interviews as needed
  • Write copy for web, print and digital marketing materials
  • Develop new business proposals and participate in pitch meetings
  • Monitor earned media and create client media coverage reports
  • Manage billing and invoicing for clients
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training and managing interns
Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate of a public relations, journalism or communications program
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant public relations experience
  • Live in or near the Birmingham area and have reliable transportation
  • An innovative self-starter with problem-solving skills, creativity, ambition, critical thinking skills and a strong work ethic
  • High skill level of journalistic writing – including the ability to generate a story from anything
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms
  • A strong understanding of how news personnel operate in order to effectively pitch media
  • Ability to work with a team – the PR department works closely on all projects
  • Advanced knowledge of AP style
  • Possess a high degree of professionalism
  • Ability to execute multifaceted tasks
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain organization
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient in the use of tools and programs including Cision, Metro Monitor, Canva, HeyOrca, etc.
  • Client/agency experience
